WELCOME TO THE IEPNG

2008 Greetings to you all.

In 2008, Barrick (PNG) Limited hosted IEPNG in Porgera from 14th January to 16th January. The meetings with Barrick were very fruitful and I must commend Barrick (PNG) Limited for the valuable assistance in taking the responsibility to fly IEPNG officers to the mine site, looked after them and really made the team welcomed. Barrick (PNG) Limited and IEPNG now have a mutual understanding on the registration of engineers and have pledge to fully support each other.Another mining organisation, Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Limited hosted IEPNG from 23rd January to 26th January, 2008 in Madang. IEPNG was invited by MCC to visit the mine site located at Krumbukai and the Refining facility located at Bamsumuk to help by identifying personnel on site that needed to be registered as Engineers and to ensure that applications are filled in properly and all relevent information is provided. In March, the Past President, Mr. Sen Hugo, Member Services Coordinator, Mrs. Toksy Tanabi and I were the guests of Ok Tedi Mining Limited in Tabubil. The team spent a whole day talking to engineers at the mine, mill and in Tabubil. The team also held discussions with the General Manager, HR who facilitated for the visit. The team returned very satisfied that a working relationship has been established with OTML. I want to commend OTML for hosting IEPNG on site and really looked after the team.

In April, IEPNG held its Annual General Meeting at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Port Moresby. I am very pleased with the attendance of engineers. For the first time, a fully packaged well published IEPNG 2007 Annual report booklet was given out. The Annual Dinner was also a huge success at the Grand Palace Restraunt in Port Moresby. I want to thank all the organisations that supported IEPNG by spnsoring tables.

A new Board was also elected in with Mr. Eric Sikam as the President of IEPNG and Chairman of PERB. Dr. Fifaia Matainaho was elected as Deputy President of IEPNG and Deputy Chairman of PERB. New Board Members elected in are Mr. Joseph Hamylton and Mr. Sylvester Kenatsi. The Board also appointed Mr. Moses Gurra and Mr. Kasen Bala to the Board and also farewelled Mr. John Cholai and Mr. Kila Pidi whose terms have expired.

IEPNG is now focusing on two major issues/projects. We are currently organising a one day workshop to involve our industry partners to discuss UNITECH and find a way to assist the Institution. We also are planning for a national Conference on the theme ' Global warming and its impact on National Development'. The conference will he held in Port Moresby in october, 2008.

Your help and support is requested. Together as a team of Engineers working in close partnership with the Industry and partners, we can make IEPNG become a truly professional institution that we all can be proud off.
